Blanton Seward
35 years as Graphic Artist (25 freelancing), I employed hands-on and
computer generated means of expression. I rendered many architectural
drawings of Richmond and points of interest in Virginia. Now, retired,
my emphasis is on Fine Art. Computer generated art is relegated to
promotional ad work for Uptown Gallery.
Though a pioneer in the cyber medium in Richmond (since 1984), I
favored hands-on art and employed it whenever I could. During this
period I sketched, painted, studied the masters, haunted museums and
lived life. But my crowning expression was a wonderful son, Paul, who
is quit the artist himself...digitally.
In general I have painted and rendered Richmond surroundings with its
lively river, period architecture and vital history. Lately I have
tried to include the human figure.
Eastern and Central Virginia has always been my home (from Surry to
Newport News to Richmond), and the James River has always been walking
distance. My ancesters trace back to the early 17th century, so I hope
my work continues their story.
Richmond statuary is of continuing interest. The Virginia Civil
Rights Monument in particular, which was the inspiration for a half
dozen graphite pieces. Recently my work has reflected my love of
children and the magical things the do.
I will do portraits.
